A fantastic mini series that originally aired on NBC in 1986 with an all star cast that Includes Maximillian Schell as Peter The Great, Vanessa Redgrave, and the always great Lawrence Olivier . This is a story of the legendary Russian Tsar Peter the Great, and was based on the biographical book written by Robert K. Massie. Maximillian Schell stars the title role of Peter the Great and gives a towering performance. Peter The Great is the Tsar of Russia from the year 1682. Peter was involved in a constant struggle between him, his sister Sophia, played magnificently by Vanessa Redgrave and the Streltsy (an important Russian military corps). The mini series depicts the efforts of Peter during his in transformation of Russia in an all European country that imports its scientists, costumes, technology and military tactics.
