Pauline
Collins stars in the film version of her Tony Award winning role in
Shirley Valentine. A heart warming drama and comedy about an English
housewife reaching a point in her life where she feels that the glass is
most certainly half empty. Shirley has a mid-life crisis of sorts;
realizing there has to be more to her life than being stuck in an
uninteresting home, life and marriage. Shirley's trip brings about a
change in herself and they way she sees her old life.
Shirley
takes a soul searching trip to Greece and it turns out to be more of an
adventure then she could have ever imagined. Shirley begins to discover
something new and repressed in herself and starts to feel alive in ways
she could have never thought possible back at her home in England. You
will lose yourself in this wonderful and funny story. Tom Conti turns in
a tremendous performance, that was nominated for an Oscar, as Costas.
Collins and Conti have great on screen chemistry and bounce off of one
another very well. The script is magnificent, as is Collins. Conti is a
very fun and breezy character. Shirley Valentine DVD 1989 is a wonderful self exploration comedy film.
This is very poignant and funny
movie at the same time. The anamorphic widescreen DVD presentation looks
terrific. Pauline Collins will have you smiling and laughing throughout
the film. Collins has a great sense of timing with her lines and her
narration in the film is spot on. Great humor and irony full each frame.
This was Pauline Collins' career defining role. The locations when
Shirley is alone on holiday are amazing. After nearly 25 years Shirley
Valentine is still a highly sought after DVD for home video. This is a
film worth paying a visit to again and again. Collins gives her career best performance as Shirley Valentine.
Collins has never
been better in any performance of her career. The comedy and drama
continually meld together with utter perfection. Each scene flows
seamlessly into the next. All the while you get swept away into
Shirley's world and you'll love every second of it. This is a wonderful
film that is an absolute must own and deserves a special place in your
film collection.
Shirley Valentine DVD remains a fantastic romantic comedy from the 80s that is is distinctly British. Shirley Valentine DVD is a terrific romantic comedy and drama from the late 80s that is filled with heart and laughs.
This is a wonderful 80s movie with class and style.
