The Naked Ape DVD 1973: Johnny Crawford, Victoria Principal

DVD Synopsis and information:
The 1973 film's outrageous tagline was The Naked Ape is Only Human. This was originally both a box office and critical disaster. Executive producer was the one and only Playboy owner by Hugh Hefner. The film's director was Donald Driver. The Naked Ape DVD was more of an experimental and pseudo docu-drama. The film featured some hand drawn animation and was Playboy magazine's adaptation of the popular 1967 anthropology book by Desmond of the same name.

The Naked Ape DVD 1973 initially received a PG rating when it was released and features some mild nudity. Now regarded as a sex comedy cult film. The film often with the mild nudity edited out, attempted to explain, in the style of 70s fashion, the story and history of man's primal, sexual urges and mating rituals. The Naked Ape DVD was considered an odd mix of anthropology, hand drawn animation, mild fantasy, and light romance. It starred Johnny Crawfod who was a Disney former Mousketeer and was a regular in the 50s TV Western The Rifleman as a young co-star aside Chuck Connors. Johnny Crawford plays Lee, who is an evolved college student who still has his basic animal desires for sex and ritual. His central interest was for a classmate in his Erotic Poetry class Cathy (played by the beautiful Victoria Principal) who also posed nude in a six page layout in Playboy Magazine's September 1973 issue, to help promote the movie, complete with mini skirt and white go go boots.

Following Principal's disastrous appearance in The Naked Ape DVD 1973, Victoria Principal exclaimed that her brief career crashed and burned. Principal had received a Golden Globe award for Most Promising Newcomer for her acting debut film the prior year, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean 1972, but she quickly became the laughing stock of Hollywood, that is until she took the career changing and defining role of Pamela Ewing for the smash hit 1978 TV series Dallas. The Naked Ape DVD is an unusual film and has been quite the odd collector DVD. The Naked Ape 1973 DVD remains an odd and fascinating film from the early 70s. The Naked Ape DVD remains an odd and fascinating film.

The strange sound of applause of cheering classmates was taking place as the couple entered hand in hand through a door into the deep black of space, and together they both floated off as their clothes inexplicably ripped off. There they were making love in bed together, in an unusual fantasy sequence. Cathy asked Lee: Do you know monkeys and apes don't fall in love? The Naked Ape is an odd film that has many interesting scenes and concepts.
